- Friction equipment cannot measure the road ahead! The measurements at any moment represent the road behind the vehicle. There is a delay of up to three seconds after the instant your tires pass a point on the highway until the the new value is reflected on the display.
- BRIDGE DECKS: The potential for ice on bridge decks becomes extremely high in certain weather conditions. The friction may drop instantly as soon as you roll onto the bridge. Since there is no fore-warning, do not rely on your friction-measurement sensor to warn you when approaching the bridge.
- IceChek is a valuable instrument for winter driving but the driver must base his or her final decisions on all the information at hand. It is generally not advisable to decelerate rapidly if IceChek indicates that you have driven onto a patch of ice. When it is safe to do so, slow down and evaluate the road surface by other means such as a braking test. When you first start using IceChek, you should use the braking test at 50-60 KPH to confirm the IceChek readings and familiarize yourself with the relationship between friction values and stopping distance.
